Don't look too closely, I don't want you to see,
The darkness that bubbles and churns inside me,
Instead pay heed to my armor, how it gleams,
With untarnished shine, or so it seems.
Don't peer into my eyes, pay attention instead,
To the glorious shining helm on my head,
Don't see the fear, and please don't look,
Into my soul like an open book.
See how my honor flies in the wind like a banner?
See how I save the damsels from danger?
But don't look too closely into my eyes,
For you may see the truth of my lies.
Dragonslayer, weakling, knight and cur,
Which of these is the truth to be sure?
Is it possible to be dark and still seek the light?
Am I so weak, despite all my might?
There are days I feel the weight of my sins,
Crushing me beneath their needles and pins,
But then there's the call, a plea of distress,
And my armor is heavy, am I up to the test?
Don't look too closely, I don't want you too see,
The fact that I am really just me,
Not a shining knight full of honor and pride,
Just another lost soul, like you, in the night.
